The Euro debt crisis that followed in the footsteps of the global financial crisis and has been lingering on ever since and seems to enter in a new and decisive phase. Either, conflicts and contradictions in the European Economic and Monetary Union will come to a head, leading to a break-up of the Eurozone in its current form.

From North-South Relations to Global Governance: 30 Years of SIIS-FES Cooperation
In spring 1983 the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) jointly launched their first international conference on "North-South-Relations". The year 2012 marks the 20th anniversary of independence of the Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Throughout the past two decades, Central Asian countries have all experienced transitions in their political systems and have evolved from planned economies during the Soviet era into current market-oriented economies. They also have been gradually integrated into world politics and their relationship with Russia, China, European countries and the United States have been adjusted continuously.
