On April 29 2011, the Shanghai Women’s Federation and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung jointly organized a lecture event on “Women’s quota in politics and economy, women and health as well as the role of women in the areas of nursing and care”. The participating German delegation was headed by Dr. Anke Martiny, former Senator for Cultural Affairs in Berlin, and Barbara Stolterfoht, former Minister of State for Women, Labour and Social Affairs in the federal state of Hessen. In her speech, Dr. Anke Martiny focused on the situation of women in executive positions in politics and the economy. The hottest discussion topic was the possible introduction of a women’s quota in private enterprises, in order to promote a fair gender distribution in these male-dominated occupational areas. Furthermore, Barbara Stolterfoht talked about the role of women in the fields of nursing and care of the elderly, and Prof. Zhang Guihong, Member of the Chinese Society of Gynecological Oncology, lectured on women's health issues.
